Knelle Pumping Station

Knelle Pumping Station is an Environment Agency flood alleviation pumping station on the River Rother. The Pumping Station has two off circa 1.00 cumec Helical Screw Pumps. The local water course level is constantly monitored via ultrasonic level measurement, in the case of high water level it will be pumped into the River Rother.

Motrol's scope for this project was to design and manufacture a new Form 4 type 2 MCC. The client preferred a hardwired relay logic control solution opposed to relays due to the critical nature of the site. The project also involved the installation works which included:

  • Removal of the existing control panel
  • Installation of new power and control wiring
  • Installation of new internal and external lighting and general service wiring
  • Upgrading of the lube pump system and pipework
  • New upstream level instrumentation
  • The complete installation tested and certified to NICEIC requirements

The project had to be programmed in advance and completed within a shutdown period.

The panel contained the following equipment for the control of this site:

  • Mains/ Generator manual changeover castell interlocked
  • Power monitoring on incomer
  • VSD control for the screw pumps
  • Siemens Hydro ranger level control
  • Hawker relay back-up hardwired control
