Ballyclare WwTW

This project was for the replacement of the existing WwTW and installation of satellite pumping stations. Drivers for the scheme were compliance with statutory requirements and the projected high growth in the population over the next 25 years in Ballyclare and the surrounding communities.

Motrol's involvement in the project was to design, manufacture, install and commission the main control panel for the designed treatment process. Control panels at the remote pump stations were also included in Motrol's scope.

Motrol designed the control panels to comply fully with Northern Ireland Water's specification for intelligent MCCs SS200E.

Due to the requirement for Form 4 Type 7 and the large quantity of starters it was decided to offer rear connection which allowed cableways to be removed and reduce the size of the panel. A busbar bridge was also designed and installed to link both sides of the MCC without the requirement for additional feeders or incomers.

The panel contained the following equipment for the control of this site:

  • Form 4 welded steel double enclosure with ASTA certified busbar system and busbar bridge
  • Mains/Generator automatic changeover facility with automated ABB air circuit breaker
  • Siemens Simocode intelligent starters with door mounted keypads on Profibus network
  • ABB VSD's with Profibus modules on the Profibus network
  • The control system Siemens S7-414H hot standby PLC system
  • Supply and install ABB harmonic filters to allow G54 compliance
