Beenhams WTW Harmonic Filter Upgrade

For South East Water, Beenhams Heath is a strategically important pumping station, which forms a key link in the Wester Region production chain.

Our client had a requirement to upgrade the harmonic filtration on this project along with adding in a new generator changeover facility. The client had requested that the existing panel be modified instead of being replaced.

Motrol were able to survey the existing control panel and design all new sections to retain the same dimensions and also allow the existing busbar system to be connected and extended.

Motrol's scope for the project was to design, manufacture, install and commission the following additions and changes to the existing MCC.

  • Supply a 1600A 4 pole ACB in a new vertical section to mount on the left hand side of the existing panel
  • Castell interlock the new generator incomer with the existing mains incomer/bus-coupler to prevent paralleling of supplies
  • Supply 2 no. active harmonic filter sections 1 no. on each of the existing panel
  • Supply and fitting of all miscellaneous CT's and interlinking cabling on site
  • Post harmonic survey

The panel contained the following equipment for the control of this site:

  • 1600A Schneider 4 pole withdrawable air circuit breaker with Castell interlock
  • Specially designed metalwork and shutter system to retain IP rating when any rack mounted filter is removed
  • Mitsubishi modular 60A rack mounted harmonic filters. Each panel designed to house 5 no.
  • Fitting of CT's on the existing busbar system and installation of summation CT's to allow the current from all incomers to be utilised.
