Tara Mines is an underground zinc and lead mine near Navan County Meath, Ireland and is one of the deepest mines in the world.
Motrol were contracted to design and build a new control distribution panel for all the equipment associated with a new depth that was being accessed in the mine.
Due to the unique panel location underground there were specific design parameters Motrol had to consider including:
- The maximum dimensions of the panel sections dictated by the size of the mine shaft and had to take into account final crating sizes to allow underground transportation
- Dust ingression into the panels in their environment was a client concern and all bases had to be sealed and additional locks fitted to the door to insure seal.
- Specific site standards had to be followed in relation to materials used in the project and the test procedure followed at the FAT
The panel contained the following equipment for the control of this site:
- Logstrup form 4 enclosure with tabula 2500A busbar system
- Mains incoming 3 pole fixed air circuit breaker Schneider
- 400Kw DOL starters which were controlled by air circuit breakers
- Backspin & PT 100 control was incorporated
- DOL sump pumps for waste water and clean water
- Distribution sections for 100V, 220V and 24V DC
- Installation of SCADA and PLC hardware
